"I currently teach 11th and 12th grade both non-IB (International Baccalaureate) and IB courses. We have an international partnership with a school in England and thanks to modern technology we get to e-mail, blog, chat and even have streaming discussions. For English class, we have book discussions and international peer editing of essays.

One focus of our curriculum is oral presentations which currently are fairly traditional with a student in front of the class speaking and then I give grades with feedback regarding the presentation. We have also been using peer feedback but the students said they wish they could see themselves so they could really understand their errors and try to improve. They also expressed an interest in sharing thier oral presentations with our partner school in England. The problem - we need video recorders.

I only need two video cameras - the students can share and they could even tape group activities. The Flip video cameras include a USB attachment which "flips" down when not in use so it is very easy to attach to the computer and I never have to worry about lost cords. With these, my students could improve their oral speaking/presentation skills which are vital for their future success but they could also increase their internationalism which is also vital for future success with the changing world. My students would also learn technology skills. At the same time it would make the classroom activities more fun and exciting - bringing me into the modern era.

I cannot afford extras like these for my classroom as I already furnish a lot of basic supplies and have children of my own - your help could truly make my classroom an interactive, international learning experience.

My students need 2 Flip Video Camcorders which work well in the classroom because they are very easy to use, are durable and have no extra cords or attachments needed. The cost of this proposal is $500, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Mrs. F. sent this note after the project was fully funded:

Dear Erick, Dorion, Mike, Ross in San Diego, Sean and Brian,
Thank You so much for your generosity. When I received notification that my project had been funded, I literally shouted with joy. I then notified the Language Arts Department of our good fortune. We have lessons ready to teach that incorporate this technology such as oral presentations and classroom sharing with our International Partner School. It is only with your help that this could be possible; again, thank you very much.
With Gratitude,
Rose

"Fear of speaking in front of a group is common, but easily overcome with practice. By recording, viewing and sharing your presentations, you'll soon correct your perceived errors and gain the benefit of confidence, which coupled with perseverance will serve you better in the world than nearly any other qualities. Good luck."

"I've had a chance to rekindle my love of theater with some recent web casts and videos. Connecting with people, even from far away, is a great way to make a difference. Give it everything you can."
