Illuminating Literacy

My students need access to a LCD projector in order to navigate the connection between literacy and technology.

My role as a literacy coach requires that I'm in the classroom on a daily basis modeling lessons, co-teaching, and working with small groups. Teaching in a low-socioeconomic area, I empower the students I work with by assisting them in becoming lifelong readers and learners. The students I serve have seen the results of illiteracy in their families and communities and are learning that literacy is the key to a better life.

As students who will be apart of a global community, our students realize that they must expand their literacy skills through technology. Our students have limited access to the type of learning experiences that exposure to technology can give them. Our children face obstacles that would be unheard of in middle and upper middle class communities. My students are bright and yearn for opportunities to elevate their reading skills by partnering with technology.

An LCD projector would multiply the accessibility of one laptop in a classroom by twenty. Students would no longer have to hover around the teacher's laptop to view or participate in an interactive reading program or a downloaded video stream on the characteristics of mammals. I would be able facilitate the type of learning experiences that would be all inclusive through the use of an LCD projector.

I know that you acknowledge and value the importance of educating children by your partnership with "Donorschoose." The impact of funding this project will reap rewards for the students I serve for years to come. I implore you to illuminate the path of literacy through technology by contributing to this worthwhile project.
