Problem Solving Portfolio Supplies

Mathematical learning only occurs through continuous assessment of student comprehension. Creating portfolios is a great way for teachers and students to monitor progress. In order for each of my 140 students to create a problem solving portfolio, each student needs one portfolio folder, graph paper, college-ruled paper, several pencils. We also need a classroom pencil sharpener. These are the basic classroom needs for creating portfolios.

Be part of the solution! The youth of our nation are our future problem solvers. In order to track my students' ability to algebraically solve problems, each student will create a Problem Solving Portfolio. Unfortunately, the supplies to create portfolios are too expensive for myself or my students' families to fund. I teach freshman Algebra I at an inner-city public high school in Illinois. The majority of our students are from low-income, minority families. Many of my students are English language learners and special education students.

The majority of my students participate in the free/reduced lunch program. Their parents cannot afford to purchase classroom materials.

Each of my 140 students needs one portfolio folder, graph paper, college-ruled paper, and several pencils. We also need a classroom pencil sharpener. Each student will create a Problem Solving Portfolio to document their successes throughout the year. These portfolios will be used to assess progress and showcase work. Self-assessment is key to comprehending mathematics.

Your donation to my students will help provide ALL students with equal access to a quality mathematics education.
