I teach World History and Advanced Placement European History to sophomores in high school. Our school in located in a rural town in south Mississippi. We belong to a fairly large school district, but it is discouraging because our state does not fully fund public education proposals. It is extremely hard for teachers to get any extra resources when our school district has to focus on other needs.

Today's students respond to media rather than textbooks. I am trying to support this learning style by providing the viewing of quality historical documentaries. Having access to these resources would greatly benefit my students and their learning processes.

We need a cart and a DVD/VCR combo player to accompany our classroom television so that we do not have to fight the entire school for the ONE television in the library. If we had these resources in our room I could use them to enrich our learning environment whenever it was needed.

Learning through other means than textbooks can be a fulfilling experience for this generation of media-hungry students. You would make it possible for my students to view foreign countries and groups of people they may never have the opportunity to experience in person. Historical documentaries have a way of linking past and present knowledge through a more interesting process than reading from a textbook!
