My classroom is a diverse second grade classroom in San Diego, California. These wonderful seven and eight year olds are all from military families. Our hardworking military families need your help! Many kids have a parent currently overseas (mostly in Iraq). As you can imagine, their lives are pretty stressful. Many are worried about a deployed mom or dad. Our school is primary low income and has limited financial resources.
My students love writing! We have a lively writing workshop where students choose what to write about and are passionate about their work. They write personal stories from their lives, fictional writing like fairytales or humorous stories, letters, and poetry. Writing is a time for them to reach into their hearts, use their imagination, and learn important communication skills. As Carol Burnett said, “Words, once they are printed, have a life of their own.”
Publishing our writing is final and important step in our writing process and presentation is everything. We often have publishing parties were students share their final work with teachers, other students, and their families. A binding machine will allow us to make beautiful books instead of just having stapled paper. Imagine the pride the kids will have when they read their own story from a “real book”. These books will become treasured keepsakes for the students and their families.
By purchasing this binding machine, our students will be able to live like real writers and live “The Writerly Life”. They will be authors of beautiful professionally bound books.
You can make a huge difference! Be our hero and please donate now!
