Microscopes For Real Life Learning

Students need real life experience in science. I teach seventh grade life science class in a high poverty area. Our resources are limited and students need to have hands on experiences in science so that they may develop more enthusiasm and interest in careers that involve science.

Currently we do not have access to microscopes, and we are an AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) school. We are using a program that requires the students to do hands on lab activities using microscopes on a daily basis. Currently the lack of microscopes, only allows the students to view the slides on an overhead, thus taking the actual life experiences out of their hands. The students need to be actively engaged rather than just an observer.

To maximize the best possible learning for my science students, I am trying to accumulate enough funds for 2 microscopes to begin with. As time goes on, I hope to acquire enough donations to secure the funds for a class set.

Your help with purchasing microscopes will put real life learning experience in the field of science into their hands. This will inspire many of my students to turn their indifference into a love of science. This will give flight to many goals of having a career in the scientific field.
