Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 4th grade to a group of children in a public school, from a lower economic area of Northern California. 70% are Hispanic and about 90% are on the free lunch program. I am trying to help my students get ready for the future.

I would like to be able to extend our students learning by giving them every opportunity to learn. I believe that with a document camera it will help all of our students in ways that are only now becoming imaginable. In science our students can actually visualize up close what is really on the rocks and minerals. They could share their work with their classmates without having to rewrite the work and try to explain at the same time. They could show their work and explain in greater detail straight from their paper. There are so many applications that could extend student learning it would take too long to list.

I am respectfully requesting a portable document camera. I am trying to find ways to close the learning gap as well as the technology gap with the students that I teach. I believe that this item can help in this fight. The requested document camera will benefit our students in many ways. A few were given above, another reason is that in the use of this devise both the English Learners and the English Only students are able to take a more active role in their education by both visual learning and hands-on learning.

Your help will ensure that our students extend their learning, as well as become better students academically, which will lead them to become successful individuals.
