Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

One, two, three! Blast off for a new year in writing! I teach 2nd grade at a Title I school in Texas. It is a high need school with 40% in free lunch programs. We ask them to bring in supplies but only some do. Writing is so important for their expression and reading development.

Supplies are brought in by some children, while others do not bring in anything because they cannot afford the expense. I usually buy start-up materials before school starts so I can plan the lessons and prepare to start on day one. This year I am requesting help from DonorsChoose.

I need hard cover notebooks and writing journals in which the children will write their stories. I need pencils to start out the year. I also have a need of binders in which to place their stories and bins to put the binders in. The children love to draw what they write about so they need markers and crayons. I also need magic markers for their visualizations. They will need binder booklets in which to put their finished products or work and I need storage bins in which to put the binders. All of these things I usually buy with my own money to prepare for the new year. Your funding of this would help me to start-up the year without going into hock. Your help would be appreciated and the children in the Title 1 school in which I teach would have their supplies.

You will make it possible for me to start a year of progressive writing. They will write every morning and every afternoon. Please assist me and the children in developing their potential in writing. These materials are vital to our children's success. Please help!
