"Lights, camera, READ! I teach a unique, dynamic group of second grade students in a Title 1 school.

My students' reading levels range dramatically and, unfortunately, the lower the reading ability, the lower the child's confidence is toward reading. Many of my students need to build fluency through repetitive reading; however, they lack the confidence and inner drive necessary to achieve this goal.

Readers Theater provides an exciting venue in which students read and study scripts until they can read them fluently and with expression. When they are ready, the students perform their skits for the rest of the class.

Research has proven that regularly engaging in Readers Theater activities drastically improves students’ reading fluency and self confidence. Therefore, I have created a proposal for a variety of books that contain Readers Theater scripts. The scripts cover a plethora of topics and reading levels, which would allow every student in my class to experience success in building reading fluency and self confidence.

With your help, my students will be able to engage in meaningful reading experiences that will further advance their reading skills. Your help will set the stage for fluency and confidence!

My students need a variety of Readers Theater books that provide scripts on different subjects and cover different reading levels.
