Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students are motivated to learn when they know you care. I enjoy teaching math and science to my fourth grade students. Eighty percent of them are economically disadvantaged learners. However, the majority of the classroom population is culturally diverse. Most of my students do not have the support they need from home in order for them to be successful.

We need help in replenishing our treasure box to continue motivating our future leaders. Positive rewards are determined by the teacher. Rewards will be based on student participation, willingness to be courtesy to fellow classmates, and ability to consider school to be each of our jobs. I have a position to which I must adhere, and so do my students. Their job is to listen, pay attention, follow direction, follow class expectations and procedures and try to do their best at all times. Just as I am expected to show up for my job each day, prepared and ready to work, I expect each student to come to school prepared and ready to work. If the students are prepared and do just that, he or she will get paid (rewarded) for his/her efforts throughout the day. Every student has the opportunity to earn a ticket for each effort that has been observed by me or another adult. At the end of the day, students will place their tickets earned in the class “EFFORT JAR”.

At the end of each week, I will hold a drawing to select from 5 – 8 students to receive a prize. If a student has already received a prize once, another name will be selected until all the students have at least been selected once to receive a prize. The students that win the raffle will have a choice of items to select from the classroom treasure box. Or, the students may choose to save their tickets and purchase a pass to enter the classroom treasure box later, instead of putting their tickets in the jar at the end of each day. Our classroom treasure box is very beneficial to my students morale, motivation and behavior as well as providing a positive vehicle for learning.

Your help in helping us replenish our reward system in the classroom will help continue motivating students to do their best at all times.
