Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My first graders come from a low income community in an inner city of Arizona. 96% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. English is primarily the students second language.

We spend 60% of our day sitting on the floor learning and working. Currently, the kids sit in tape outlines on the floor. However, the tape never sticks for very long - and the tape that does stick quickly looks dirty and disgusting.

We would love to have a bright colorful carpet in our classroom to sit on. This would not only look cheery in our room but give each student a space to call their own. The structure of a carpet reminds the children of their personal boundaries and where and how they should be sitting for maximum learning to occur. At the same time the bright colors add to the overall positive atmosphere of our classroom.

Your help will help guarantee that these little first graders get the best start to their educational career. As well as given all of the same opportunities and that their peers in middle and high income communities have.
