Organizing to Maximize Learning with Art

My students need an easily accessible solution for get art supplies in the classroom throughout the school day.

I teach 1st grade in a rapidly growing community. The city that I work in was originally a small farming community that has rapidly changed overnight into a sprawling community that continues to grow daily. I have a variety of students from single parent working homes to students that live on farms. I work at a K-5, Title 1 school with a great deal of students receiving free or reduced lunch each day.

With a fast growing community, I am often not able to obtain the materials or supplies that would greatly benefit my students. Each year the district has had to face how they will fund and build new schools to meet the growing need of space for students. The cost of building new schools can often leave out the extras that benefit the students in so many ways. In my classroom, I often like to incorporate art in to lessons that I teach with hands-on projects that will involve my students. Too many times, I have to take time way from teaching times or moments that I could be working with students because I am getting out supplies that the 30 or more students in my classroom need. It can be a daunting task to retrieve and put away supplies for my students each day because I do not have a teaching aid to help in the classroom with the large number of students that I work with in 1st grade. By having a space to organize supplies that were easily accessible for students that I could spend more time teaching and working with students because students would be have easier access to supplies for projects with the art supplies being housed in a central location.

If I was given a place to store and house supplies for my students, such as the art cart that I am requesting, I know that I would be able to better utilize my time and benefit my students in the classroom each day. I would also be able to have more flexibility to teach and incorporate more art into my classroom throughout my curriculum.

By funding this piece of equipment to organize art supplies within my classroom, you will be able to help me bring more educational experience to my students. Each time that a child has an opportunity to connect to a subject through art there is a better possibility that they will be able to maintain that connection for a long time. I can still remember a great deal of projects and lessons that I was better able to connect to as a child because I was able to explore and engage in the curriculum through art. I would truly love to bring these experiences to my students everyday by giving them the chance to easily access any art supply that they might need to help their imagination sore above and beyond my greatest expectations for them. I truly appreciate your support.
