My students recently became inspired to produce their own documentaries on a career shadowing trip to a NYC production studio.

Although our students have all of the interest, brains and charisma to become New York's next independent film and documentary makers, they do not have the resources. Many of our students are immigrants and have fascinating stories to tell. They also take an interest in cultures beyond their frames of reference but lack the opportunities to learn about them. It is therefore, up to us to help support these interests!

A camcorder would give us the push to get this project going! In addition, once our funding is set, the plan is to take students abroad for a summer and allow them to use the world as their set in creating authentic, student-directed documentaries. These documentaries will become part of their portfolios and used when applying to college. Many of our students will be the first in their families to go to college.
