My students need two sewing machines for the costume section of their new class.

"But I don't know how to sew...how can I make a costume?" My 9-12th grade students rarely have seen a sewing machine, much less used one! The new technical theatre class is going to be a place where they not only see a machine, but learn to use it as well. (Real theatre people spell theatre--"re", NOT "er" LOL)

Mothers work more and stay home less, and sewing as a past time is almost extinct. So when I introduce students to the idea of designing and creating their own costumes, they need to learn a thing or two about using the sewing machine. Since right now I only have one machine, this will be difficult in a class which will be filled with as many as 20 students at a time.

Adding one or more sewing machines to the one I already have will allow more students to get hands on experience in stitching together their own original ideas! Costuming is more than just pulling things off a rack or renting from a costume company and I want my students to feel the excitement of seeing something they sewed with their own hands up on stage in a real performance.
