I am a resource (special education) teacher at two elementary schools. I teach reading, writing, math and social skills to all grade levels. One of my schools serves a large number of socio-economically disadvantaged students.

When asked a question such as: "What is 7 inches long?," my students have no idea if this is a pencil, a person or a ladybug. My students need to have the life skills of using both customary and metric measurements. My students are concrete learners and need to have a lot of repetition with manipulatives in order to master math skills. I need to have some measurement manipulatives with corresponding guided practice activities to help my students learn measurement skills.

The "Hands-On Measurement Centers" will facilitate my students' learning in the area of measurement. They provide manipulatives, measurement tools, mini posters and learning activities for metric and customary measurements including: capacity, weight, length, perimeter, area and volume.
