"I am a Science Lab teacher in Texas. Our urban elementary school has about 700 students, 125 of them being fourth graders.
Kids love rocks!! They're always bringing in samples and using hand lenses to check them out. Unfortunately, an urban coastal city is not the best place to go rock collecting. I want to give them experiences with the basic types of rocks and minerals, observe the results of erosion /deposition over time, and the many uses for rocks/minerals in their everyday life.
The rock/mineral kits will help them observe samples of rocks/minerals found throughout the world. The stream tables will be useful to demonstrate rock formation, erosion and deposition.
Your help will ensure that my fourth grades will experience the thrill of observing and testing the properties of rocks/minerals.
My students need stream tables and rock/mineral samples for our Earth Science Unit.

Dear The Simmons Foundation, Janessa, Robin, Geology.com, Sylvia and Seed Media Group,
Thank you so much for your support!!! My students are going to be so excited when I tell them that our rock and mineral collections are coming. Our Earth Science Unit starts in mid November so the timing is perfect. My 4th and 5th grade students love rocks, but the rocks are hard to find and collect along the Gulf Coast. I'll be able to use these collections with students for years to come. Thank you from all of the students.
On Dec 4, 2008, Mrs. H. followed this note with student letters sent via mail to the donor who completed this project, and to donors who gave $100 or more.
