I am a math teacher in a rural junior high school. For the past three years, I have mounted plain white butcher paper to the back wall of my class room. What for? Bragging Rights, Of course! My junior high aged kids love to brag to their peers about their accomplishments! They like to tell when they score a touchdown, learn a backflip, finish a good book, score well on a test, even patch things up with a friend! This has been a very rewarding part of my teaching career -- it is a positive way to help build and maintain self esteem, and it is a great way for me to get to know my students on a personal level! I even have students from other classrooms ask to sign my wall! This year I would like to use a dry erase board with a cork board to liven things up! It will enable me to remove old remarks to make room for new ones, and keep things fresh!It will also give my kids a place to display newspaper clippings and other memorabilia of their accomplishments! Please help me to continue this worthwhile project in my room. Kids need a place to brag - to feel good about themselves. Help me give them a place to shout their good news to the world!
