Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What's the difference between the numbers two and three? No, this is not a math problem, but it is very closely related. These numbers are the foundation of musicality and artistry. My middle school choir and drama students in an extremely diverse, low-income school are more than just singers and actors. They are artists. In my program, I teach my singers to be musicians. I teach my actors to be performers.

I am a first-year teacher stepping into a program where singers just sing. They do not feel the music. I have no supplies with which to work. I have nothing but my own ideas and experiences to share with them. Though they are great ideas and experiences, I must have the supplies to work with.

With a tubano and temple blocks, I will be able to play rhythmic and beat patterns during which my students will be able to create movements and improvise during these allotted periods of time. In this situation, the students will experience the difference between duple and triple meter. They will strengthen their abilities to feel and perform rhythms. They will understand the fundamentals of dramatic performance through improvisatory activity.

Your donation will allow my students the opportunity to become artists. Studies have shown that musical and dramatic studies greatly improve a student's achievement academically, emotionally, and socially. Your donation will allow my students to grow as intellectuals and as human beings.
