It's a Wrap! Interactive Math Resources

My students need hands-on math resources which include addition, subtraction and multiplication wrap-up keys, a class graphing station, multiplication bingo and a daily problem-solving flip chart.

Math is more fun when kids are moving! I have a wonderful group of 3rd grade students, over 50% of whom qualify for free or reduced lunch, with a 25% ELL population. They are a very active students who thrive on a creative and engaging curriculum.

Third grade is the year where students learn the concept of multiplication and they also work to master the multiplication facts. Many are successful at this but others need to visit the facts in different ways in order to utilize them quickly when solving larger multiplication problems. For example, a student who doesn't know their facts gets bogged down when trying to learn the Lattice Multiplication algorithm for two- or three-digit multiplication problems. They are trying to learn both the algorithm and struggling with the one-digit multiplication as well. Some students even come to third grade without having mastered their addition and subtraction facts and this puts them further behind as we move forward with more advanced processes.

I have tried many methods to help students master math facts and realized clearly last year that I need to improve my resources in this area. Knowing that students retain information better when they are moving and their learning has a kinesthetic aspect, I searched for resources that would help my students achieve greater success. I believe that these Wrap-Up Keys will be the key that unlocks that door for my students. Students wrap string around keys that have multiplication facts on them. They wrap the string from the problem on the left to the answer on the right, then turn the Wrap-Up® over to see if the answer is correct. There is also an audio CD with Wrap-Up Rap music to engage students in yet another way. Using these and other resources like a class graphing station where students walk up and enter their own data, will help students approach math in new ways that are motivating and active.

My goal is to help students feel positive about math and secure in the knowledge that they can solve new problems. These resources will help them achieve secure knowledge of their addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. When a new algorithm is presented to them, they can focus on the task at hand rather than being slowed down and frustrated by also having to focus on the facts. Your help will give my students confidence in math and with that will come the joy of knowing they can tackle any kind of problem. Our morning math time will be something they will look forward to!
