My students need easels so they can prop up white boards to write on and erase easily during small group tutorial sessions.

My students are participants in a class called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), which is designed for students who traditionally would not receive the push to go to four-year colleges, but with the proper grooming would be accepted and successful. My students are in the eleventh and twelfth grades in California, and will be focusing on skills such as note taking, organization, and communication.

Weekly my students will be participating in tutoring sessions, which will take place in small groups. One student will work on a specific question on a portable white board, while the other students ask leading questions to help the student answer his/her question. My classroom has two long trays attached to two walls, which we could use to hold the white boards, but all five groups would have to work in the same space, which would be confusing and distracting. It would be better if the groups could space themselves out around the room. My problem is how will the white board stay up so the kids can write on them without using one of the group members to hold it?

We need easels! With the easels, all students can participate fully. The student with the question can concentrate on their work and thoughts. The group members can concentrate on wording questions to help lead to the conclusion, while taking notes on the process.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to space themselves around the room, allowing them to think and work productively in their own area. This will help them focus on working in small groups, their communication skills, their classes that they are having questions in, and their note taking.
