Instilling curiosity in students is imperative for success in the world of academia and for the future. Reading is the key to unlocking curiosity. I am a 2008 Teach For America corps member teaching kindergarten in Florida. My students live in a high-need community and will be participating in a magnet program.

My students have the unique opportunity to begin their school careers on the right path. However, they need the tools in order to ensure they will succeed.

Big books are important aids in all aspects of literacy. For kindergarten, these books will be instrumental in modeling reading and providing visual support for students. Reading different types of books exposes students to different perspectives. In turn, my students will have the opportunity to become curious.

You can guarantee my students will have curiosity instilled in them from the beginning, which will carry them through their academic careers.
