"First and foremost, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this proposal. Like you, I care about the lives of children and I believe that a child's future is enriched by the quality of education that they receive. Knowing this, I have committed myself to ensuring that students receive superior academic instruction.
As a 1st grade teacher, I know that my students have many years of education ahead of them. My hope is that they leave my class inspired and motivated to be life long learners.
With that said, I am a 1st grade teacher in a small rural community in Southern Arizona. This year we will be opening a new elementary school! With a small budget and limited resources, teachers are looking for creative ways to enrich their students' learning. I have a specific need that I would like to present to you... but first, let's take a little quiz. Can you name all 50 states and their capitals? Do you know the name of all 7 continents and the 4 major oceans? Are you able to identify the planets in our solar system? If so, thank a teacher!
These days, it is not uncommon to find teachers who feel as if they must choose between teaching reading/math and science/social studies. As a result, a significant number of students graduate each year lacking basic knowledge of the world in which they live.
I believe that teachers DO NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE between imparting knowledge about the world in which we live AND giving students the tools to live well! As a matter of fact, I think that it is imperative that students have both.
With your help, I would like to provide resources for my students that will spark and interest and light a fire of knowledge that will extend through out middle school, high school, and beyond. Using tactile, hands-on activities will promote active engagement and lead to a deeper understanding of the content.
The students will love to walk the planets on a solar system mat. They will marvel at the inflatable planets that they can hold in their hands. They will have endless fun putting together puzzle pieces to form the United States and the World. And lastly, they will imagine different places they might visit as they spin their own classroom globe. As an early elementary educator, I believe that it is important that students begin this journey early in their education so that they grow to be cognizant and thoughtful adults who share their breadth of knowledge with future generations. I hope that you share in my desire to give students a real sense of themselves in our world.
TEACHERS & DONORS MAKE FOR OUTSTANDING EDUCATION!
My students need 1 classroom globe, 2 geography puzzles, 1 set of inflatable planets, and 1 solar system floor mat. HIDELive Updates
