Math Start Books to Assist in Language Arts and Math Lessons

Monster Musical Chairs Missing Mitten Circus Shapes Every Buddy Counts Greatest Gymnast of All, The Henry the Fourth Just Enough Carrots Monster Musical Chairs Pair of Socks, A Rabbit's Pajama Party The books are all by Stuart J. Murphy. The books teach students about different math facts while telling a fun story. Each book comes with additional strategies to teach the different concepts through hands on activities.

I teach 2nd grade to a high transient, low income school. Most of the students I teach have one or both parents serving our country.

Students need additional supplies to assist in the variety of levels they perform at socially and academically. Many of the children move often and need additional resources to keep up to other students their same age.

The books I have asked for are books by Stuart J. Murphy series 2 and 3. They are visual learning books. The books teach concepts that students need to know before they enter the third grade. For example, one of the books is called "Give Me Half". Students will be able to read the book and see how the characters in the book share their belongings to learn about fractions. Each book in both series are specific to a different concept in the curriculum. There are books that first introduce skip counting, problem solving, analyzing, and regrouping. The books will also allow me to integrate other subjects of the core as we discuss different words, meanings and sentence structure. In addition, science and health will also be able to be taught through many of the math start books. The books in my classroom will benefit my teaching by striving to continue to grab each student’s interest, but to also be able to integrate all the subject matter into a lesson. The lessons each teach a concept from the curriculum and also have many ideas for hands on activities to encourage interactive learning.For example, at the end of each book there are many different hands on activities.

You will make it possible for not only the students I teach this year to have additional supplies, but for many years of students who go through my classroom. Students will not only have books to learn about math concepts, but will be able to learn about all subject matter and also be able to participate in hands on learning.
