How many times have you heard, "Money doesn't grow on trees!" Students hear it, but many do not realize what it takes to actually manage money.

In our fifth grade classroom, students are encouraged to practice responsibility. As adults, one of our largest responsibilities is managing money. Please help me get the supplies I need to teach students how to properly manage money using real-world applications in an everyday in-class financial institution.

By giving each student his or her own realistic checkbook and register, student can begin to develop an understanding about money management. This is a class I wish I had available as a child! Students understand that money doesn't grow on trees, but need practice "earning" and "spending" money on things that make sense to them. I can do this in the classroom by paying students for jobs, and allowing them to spend money on classroom "bills".

What a fantastic opportunity to help teach children about financial responsibility! They will be doing math left and right, and may not even realize it! Thank you for giving these students the opportunity to establish financial "smarts"...an opportunity that has been missing for so many for so long. You could help these students learn that credit cards and checks are not free money, without responsibility, and are not the answer to getting everything they want...BEFORE they go out and learn it the hard way!
