Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students in NYC are turning into book worms. I teach reading and writing in a middle school dedicated to our students lives as readers and writers. Our school recently reached record numbers on the state reading test, largely due to amount of reading happening in our building. More and more kids are walking our hallways with books and discovering the great escape that books provide.

I will be teaching my 7th graders from last year this year as 8th graders, and they are currently loving the new urban fiction for teens that is hot on the market. I also sent my students home with 5-6 of my books each for their summer reading, so my library has been largely depleted. I desperately need to revitalize my library with fresh books that I know my students will love!

I created a list of books that I know will immediately get my students' noses into books come September. I have found that struggling readers from impoverished neighborhoods need both time and resources to become better readers. I will generously provide them with the time and help, but I need the right resources to do so. It is these books that will hook them into reading this fall, enabling me then to push them into other great books of literature and fantasy.

You will be providing one of the greatest resources for any learner--books! Slowly but surely, our kids in MYC are seeing them as treasures, so please donate to our great cause.
