Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Resource Room to a fantastic group of students in grades k-6. Our school is in a community of high-need. These special education students are full of energy, very enthusiastic and eager to learn.

We have an area where we sit to read everyday. The rug we have now is infested with droppings and urine spots from mice. Despite my efforts to keep it clean, it stinks, however, the children love to sit there and share their stories. I want to give them the opportunity to sit on a rug that will inspire them to read, in order to close that huge achievement gap, which is holding them back.

A new Rain Forest rug which is beautiful will inspire them to write stories about the rain forest, animals and the environment. It will also create a comfort zone for their silent reading, share reading and writing. Moreover, it will inspire them to do research on animals and the rain forest.

With this rug you will make it possible for my students to have a place where they can sit to enjoy the simple pleasure of reading to acquire a fountain of knowledge.
