Our K-12 school is located in a rural farming community in southeast Missouri. Our district services about 300 students, 49% of which are considered at or near poverty level by the state. I am the high school science teacher. I inspire students in grades 10-12 to learn the wonders of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Ecology, and Zoology.

The books that I am requesting will benefit my Ecology students. My district does not have the funds to purchase text books for this course, and so I am forced to supplement my knowledge with other resources including publications by the Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Adding Aldo Leopold's "A Sand County Almanac" to my list of supplements will provide my students a cross curricular link to their Literature classes, as well as give them a tangible, real world example of a scientist's work in the field.

I would like to purchase 35 copies of Leopold's "A Sand County Almanac" to supplement my teaching of Ecology. Reading this book will allow my students to form an awareness of land as a living community that is to be loved and respected. It will allow them to increase their appreciation for our planet and serve as a spring board for discussion and action in our community.

Your support of this request will allow me to deepen my students understanding of Ecology, their appreciation of Literature, and most importantly encourage them to be good stewards of the environment for the rest of their lives.
