The Discovery Program fully includes severely handicapped K-3 students into a general classroom setting located at our local public school. General and special education teachers co-teach in the classroom and provide multi-modal experiences that totally immerse students into units of study. Children of all ability levels work cooperatively at hands-on learning centers designed so every child can be challenged and successful, The classroom is a beehive of activity in which academic success and the developing of understanding and acceptance are stressed equally. Providing the hands-on materials needed to bring academic concepts to life for such a wide range of students is a constant challenge. We want to provide materials and activities that will engage all of our students and promote cooperative learning experiences. A medley of high-interest board games will help us accomplish this goal.

Our ancient, garage sale board games are disintegrating. The most up-to-date games are beyond are budgetary means. Lost pieces and torn boards make it impossible to carry on a reasonable game. Without these exciting learning tools, our students are missing out on a marvelous way to reinforce skills.

A medley of the most tried-and-true plus newest games will infuse our class with excitement. What could be more fun than reinforcing reading skills with "Froggy Phonics" or math skills with "Chutes and Ladders?" Colors are a breeze with "Candy Land" and memory skills are certainly increased with the game of "Memory." Besides the academic skills these and the other games will support, cooperative play skills will be increased.

Your generous donation will bring new life and many hours of learning and enjoyment to our classroom. With your help and by recruiting a corp of parent and older student volunteers, we can make the use of motivating board games a regular part of our school day.
