To help my students become confident readers, I model using good reading strategies by reading to them and showing them what good readers do. Sometimes this is quite difficult when the students cannot see the pictures or words. I am asking for some big books to help my students visually see the text. The books will also be used in our big book work station for the children to practice good reading strategies as well. They will also be used to incorporate science, social studies, and math into our curriculum. The read-along kits help teach children the basic building blocks of reading step by step! Each kit is based on a simple, themed story with a big book and 6 student books, plus a read-along cassette and CD. I can just pop in a recording, and it guides kids through the book in 3 progressive steps: First, children listen to the story as they follow along in their books. Then, the recording reviews key words and reads the book again as children track the text word for word. Finally, students are encouraged to read each page of the book aloud either alone or with a teacher or partner! I know my kids would greatly benefit from these big books.
