"I would teach the children music, physics and philosophy, but the most important is music, for in the patterns of the arts are the keys to all learning." ~Plato How can you argue with that? For the 2008-2009 school year I will be teaching first grade in an urban charter school in Pennsylvania. 90% of our students come from low income families. We are a full inclusion school with a high percentage of special needs students.

My students are born performers. They love to dance, act, but most of all, SING! We sing to get ready for our day. We sing about reading, math, science, and even social studies! We have lots of songs and CDs but we don't have a good way to organize all of our wonderful music! We often lose precious learning time searching for the perfect song to help make a lesson stick.

If we had an Apple iPod we could organize our music by genre, academic subject, and by our favorites. It would then take mere seconds to find the song we need and play it for all to hear and sing along with. This would save our valuable learning time and still make learning fun by adding the joy of music!

Your help will ensure that my students continue to have a love for music and a love for learning by creating less down time searching for music and more opportunities to listen to music in the classroom!
