Carpet the Day? That's right! I need an inviting atmosphere with a warm central location to allow maximum success for my Kindergarten students! Many of my children do not come from homes with the "warm fuzzy feelings." Broken homes, split families and sad stories leave many of my students to come to school looking for refuge. Please help me help my students gain an overall environment of safety and love while gaining knowledge in all subject areas through the use of a rug for our classroom to use in group activities, story time and endless socialization possibilities!

Being in Kindergarten, there are so many various obstacles which arise throughout the day. Rushing a little one to the restroom, spilling paint materials and sensory explorations gone crazy are just a few occurrences you may see when you enter my classroom. What you won't see is a central area of community where the children know exactly where to sit, participate and learn on...a carpet! It would be so comforting to have my students enter the classroom and say, "Have a seat on the carpet" and know that they have an identified area where they may congregate. I have been placing duct tape on the floor as a reference. What ends up happening? Little fingers start to peel away at the tape, precious shoes begin to unravel the stickiness and tiny rear ends become sore and hard from the cold floor. Then what happens? Instructional time is taken away from curriculum to redirect my darling instigators.

The use of a warm, inviting and soft rug in my classroom will act as a learning tool developing social skills and community team building. Students will no longer attempt to sit under tables and as far back as they "sneakily" can because there is an identified location. The rug will help my teaching methods become more advanced, participation with students easier and a sense of completeness within the room. The rug will benefit my students as a happy meeting place to learn, a given sense of belonging and a pure feeling of being comfortable.

Your assistance in making it possible to "Carpet the Day" ensures that my students will always feel safe and welcomed within my classroom walls. For that alone I say, Thank You! Your help makes a huge differences in many of my student's lives by merely donating a rug to a classroom and giving them a sense of home and a pride of peace which many do not receive in their home.
