Using Authors As Mentors for Writing

My students need 55 books by various authors like Jan Brett, Audrey Wood, Robert Munsch, and Kevin Henkes to use as mentors for learning to become writers and learn the craft of writing.

Creating and inspiring young students to become writers through studying other authors and their craft. I teach 2nd grade and that includes all curriculum.

I am a new second grade teacher and therefore my books by varied authors is limited. I'd like to have those readily available to my class as we study these authors and how they write. My students can learn the craft of writing from these great examples and learn to incorporate these skills into their own writing.

I would like to have several books on different authors for us to explore and learn from. These mentor authors include Jan Brett, Audrey Wood, Robert Munsch, and Kevin Henkes. I know there are many more wonderful authors, but felt this was a great place for us to begin. My students would then have more than one book by an author we can read and discuss the techniques they use in their books. My students will learn how authors get their ideas, how they then organize their writing, and then include voice, word choice, and conventions into their books. This will give my students excellent examples to learn from and become incredible writers themselves.

Your help with this project will enable my students to learn from some of the best writers. We could check out books from the library which we will still do, but this way by having these books in the classroom they are readily available everyday to my students. They can continuously refer back to books that include techniques that interest the students and that they want to try in their own writing. This would be a valuable resource to my class and you would be helping to create the writers in my class.
