"Second Grade Reading Pad" where low income students that include English learners, can experience the world outside their inner-city community.

Many of our students do not have books for home reading. Our reading pad accommodates twenty minutes of sustained reading at school, teacher resource for writing examples and will serve as a class library where books can be checked out for home reading.

These books will enhance our class selection for many years to come. As the teacher I will model excitement of reading during our sharing family time. For our second grade writing program our students will "see" how other author's write, describe character's, settings, problems and solutions. Patricia Palacco's writing will help our beginning author's "see" how real authors express dialog without saying "said".

Do you remember a book from your youth that made an impression on you? This reading pad will launch our students outside our classroom walls, help them experience new vocabulary and connect the text to their own writing.
