I currently teach 3rd grade at a Title I school in South Carolina. I teach all subjects,with the exception of Fine Arts. I work with several “at-risk” students. My proposal is for one digital camera and five (one for each group of students) 1GB flash drives to store their photos on. I feel that digital photography will help students make stronger visual connections with the subject matter, a key ingredient in a student centered learning environment.

A digital camera will play a vital part in their writing activities as well. It will allow them to capture pictures of various objects or events. As well as my taking pictures of them and incorporating this into their writing experiences. The flash drives will allow them to store their photos and digital files, over a period of time. I will also be able to incorporate these pictures in other media for display on the Smart Board we have in the classroom.

I feel that this tool will assist in bringing lots of excitement to the learning process for all of my students. The Smart Board is used daily in my classroom with every subject. The use of digital photography will give them a great deal of ownership to the presentations and pictures that are used in other subject areas as well.

Please consider funding this proposal for one digital camera and the five 1 GB flash drives so that we can incorporate more technology into the visual areas of our lessons. Thank you so much for your consideration.
