My students (90% minority, 70% low income) are enrolled in a college Prep high school within a very large, very urban, public school district. As with most urban public school districts, budgets are tight, resources are stretched, but expectations are high. As I prepare for the upcoming school year, I am reaching out to individuals and business that might be able to provide resources so my students can reach and surpass the expected benchmarks.

This year, I am developing a full hands-on dissection course in Anatomy and Physiology. In this course, students will explore the awesome and complex structures that allow organisms to survive and maintain function in our sometimes hostile environment. Many of my students have aspirations to continue into health related careers that are grossly under-represented by minorities and this course will provide them with an exceptional foundation as they move into their post-secondary education.

My goal is to make this course as student-oriented as possible with full examination of a wide variety of anatomical specimens. Due to the interactive nature, I anticipate using supplies at a great pace; therefore, I am requesting a donation of supplies such as non-latex gloves in various sizes, disposable or replaceable blade scalpels, lab coats or aprons, and safety glasses.

Any supplies that you are able to donate will be used by the 64 students already enrolled in the course and students who will take the course in the future. It is my hope that successful completion of this course will inspire my students to continue on to the health careers path that they have selected.
