A love of learning is something that is created in students as they enter the school environment and PreK is where that all begins! I am a K4 (PreK) teacher in an urban school district and have the opportunity to impact these young lives on a daily basis. Many of my students live below the poverty level and do not have the experiences that many of the rest of us have. Even at four years of age, my students lead difficult and challenging lives. The best part of my job is being able to provide these students with a solid foundation on which they can build the rest of their educational career. I go to work everyday knowing that I have the opportunity to impact these young lives in a positive manner. It's amazing to see their eyes light up as they learn something new and to see them truly come to life right before me.

My students come from an under privileged environment where they truly do not have a lot. My school district has done the best they can to provide our students with supplies and materials, but with recent budget cuts, it has been a tough year and supplies are at a minimum. I feel that my students deserve more and I am doing the best I can to provide them with an optimal learning experience for their first year in a school environment.

I am asking for the "Blocks of Fun" rug and the shape/number squares for our classroom. My classroom is a small space and very limited on seating. Not only will this rug provide us with a cozy environment to conduct our daily circle time, it will also serve as a learning center where students will be able to strengthen their math skills by matching the shape/number squares. This rug will also benefit my students by providing them with a comfortable spot in the classroom where they can curl up with a book or work on a puzzle with a friend. The rug and the shape/number squares will help to build a community of learners within my classroom.

You will make it possible for my students to have an area in the classroom that they can call their own. A special place where we will come together to share our learning experiences. It will be a place where learners are created and friendships will be made. Your help will play a part in developing a love of learning in the hearts of the PreK students that enter my classroom!
