A Sound Investment for Science

Hello, and thank you for visiting my proposal for a listening center so my 1st and 2nd grade students can learn about science through listening to stories and songs about gardening, dinosaurs, worms, recycling, and the solar system. Every year our school attracts more students who must learn English as a second language, qualify for the free lunch program, and rarely leave their neighborhoods for trips to the Exploratorium or Discovery Museum. Yet these active, earnest, and curious students have a lot of questions, like what is a wheat grain and how does it become bread? How can a plant be a fossil if it doesn't have bones? What does friction look like and how does it slow you down? Since I'm usually the only one who knows the answer (though we'd love to have you volunteer), a listening center would help them independently learn new vocabulary and hear its proper usage in context. To help my students, I have a great CD collection that includes the Banana Slug Band, Schoolhouse Rock, and recorded versions of required textbooks. Unfortunately, our listening station was prematurely silenced when the tired, old tape recorder broke. Might you please consider making a sound investment with the gift of a new listening center?
