Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students need interventions to prevent the life complications associated with obesity and sedentary life styles.

My students want to be grown up. They want to have the chance to feel responsible for their own lives. Teaching students how to use a fitness center empowers them to feel in control of their own health and ultimately their lives.

We have been in the process of creating a fitness center this spring. We now have the beginning of what is needed. However many of the pieces of equipment that were donated to us from local citizens were very used and some were not strong enough for institutional use. We now need to begin the process of upgrading some of pieces with new, high quality equipment.

Most of my students are not motivated by the traditional physical education curriculum and often neither am I. I have set out to create a curriculum that is so diverse it offers something to everyone. It is with this goal that I have set out to create this most recent addition to our program, a fitness center. With the completion of this fitness center I will now be able to motivate many more students to believe that their health is paramount to a happy future.
