Imagine a room filled with teenagers who are experts on various Hispanic American figures. Our school is planning a school wide exhibition celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. My students will be required to research and write essays on an important Hispanic American figure or event. This project is a student centered assignment that allows my students to become historians who must prove the importance of their selected Hispanic American or event. This is a very rigorous project that focuses on four areas of learning; researching, writing, using technology and public speaking. After students research and write their essays, they then use their knowledge to design and create an oral presentation explaining their topic to an audience of their peers in the school gym. Students will have a choice in determining which format to present their information during the exhibition, an exhibit board or a power point presentation. However, most of my students are financially challenged and cannot afford exhibit boards, or the computers needed to finish a power point presentation. Also, our school lacks a functioning computer lab. Therefore, most of my students must depend on my classroom computers to finish such a project. I am requesting four laptop computers that my students could use to finish and view their power point presentations. My students love to create projects and present their knowledge to an audience. My students have done such school wide presentations before, thanks to donors in the past. My students have made me proud over the last few years due to their commitment to these projects. Please help make our Hispanic Heritage Celebration a success.
