Touching Spirit Bear Means the World to My Students

My students need a copy of "Touching Spirit Bear" to enhance their learning.

This book can move mountains! For three years I have taught 6th grade Language Arts and used Ben Mikaelsen's "Touching Spirit Bear" as a read aloud with much success with my students. The themes of survival within the story parallel that of these students first experience in middle school and provides them with something to connect to. It's amazing to see the shear anticipation as students of all levels and abilities wait on the edge of their seats to hear what will happen next.

The potential for learning and for continued practice with comprehension skills will be greatly increased if students have their own copy of the book to work with. The audio version of the book will also provide students with an opportunity to participate in the reading regardless of their reading level. However, in times of financial crunch, some great ideas are pushed to the back burner due to financial issues. This is a situation that my students cannot afford. They need this book and the ideas, thoughts, and understanding it provides. I want to see them further develop as learners and individuals using this great piece of literature.

My students need to have access to this great book and audio CD to help them navigate middle school and increase their understanding as literary beings. These resources with allow each one of my Language Arts classes to share in the experience of the main character and connect to their lives, leaving an impact on them forever.

Your generosity will enable my students to read some great literature and have some great experiences. They will be able to increase their learning and understanding of what they read in a way that connects to their personal life and experiences.
