Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach fourth grade at a Title I (low-income English learners) elementary school with low API scores in Los Angeles Unified School District. Although my students have encountered many difficulties in their young lives, they have persevered and overcome those difficulties to have been identified gifted or high achieving students in the grade level.

Although my students are high achieving, they have difficulties when it comes to problem solving and logic in such areas as math. With the current noisy overhead projectors, it is difficult and time consuming for the students to copy their work on overhead transparencies to share with their peers, if possible at all.

It would benefit the students greatly if an ELMO visual projector was used in class because it would provide the students access into their peers thoughts and strategies. Students can then become the teacher and share their thought process and solution with their peers through their work.

Your donation will help my students share their strategies and thought process with their peers, as well as help facilitate critical thinking in those that are having difficulties grasp the subject matter. Students will be able to become the teacher as they share their successes, which in turn will help boost their academic self-esteem and confidence.
