This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help us become In The Know Fourth Graders! I teach fourth graders in an urban high-need community setting. The enrollment is 700 plus students serving a very diverse population that includes ELL, special education, high ability, and many at risk students.

Fourth graders want to KNOW! Students show a great deal of interest in current events when a sample Weekly Reader Newspaper is available. This year is especially important as we study the historical election taking place in November. Unfortunately, most homes in our community don't have adequate reading materials including daily newspapers. Also lacking are the noteworthy discussions involving current events and language skills. With your help, at least sixty fourth graders will benefit each week from using the Weekly Reader Newspaper.

Weekly Reader Newspapers add a great deal to our social studies and language arts curriculum. It is so beneficial for students to have a newspaper written for them at their level. The research projects, discussions, and writing activities that spiral from the articles they read are incredible!

Weekly Reader Newspapers not only help students in the classroom, but they also allow them to take important information home to share with their families. This opportunity that you can offer to our fourth graders will allow them to recognize the importance of being well informed as they continue to develop their own views and opinions. Thank you for caring about our future citizens!
