Help Motivate My Students In The New Millennium!!! I am a third grade teacher at an inner city elementary school. Our students all receive free lunch. Classroom sizes average 25 students per teacher.

I am a first year teacher that was given the opportunity to teach a benchmark grade. Third grade is a very pivotal year. I plan to teach with fun and creativity. One of my goals is to increase student confidence and independence along with increasing student achievement academically. The biggest obstacle that my students face are the fact that many are below state standards. Particularly in the areas of reading, writing and math. My students are a benchmark grade and therefore are tested by the state mid year to assess student achievement.

I believe as a motivator to class participation and student learning, mini whiteboards would prove to be a success in my classroom. Mini whiteboards serve as a tool during whole group instruction that engages each and every student. Mini whiteboards are a diverse tool that is hands on and supplementary to daily instruction.

Bringing mini whiteboards to the classroom will engage students and motivate student participation. The enthusiasm for learning will greatly increase. Whiteboards also allow me to immediately assess student learning. My entire class shall be involved with mini whiteboards leaving no student out of instruction. Whiteboards in the classroom can also be used to practice spelling and handwriting. Whiteboards are great for asking the children to make lists, play word games and for making sentences. In addition to all the spelling and writing activities that can be used with mini whiteboards, math games can be played as well. Students can practice math facts and number families. My students will greatly benefit from the usage of mini whiteboards daily. Please help to make this tool useful in my third grade classroom.
