I work in a high needs elementary school as a 5th grade teacher. Lively stores, fun themes and essential social studies concepts are all part of the 5th grade curriculum.

I would love to show my students videos and reinforce skills by using online interactive web sites to motivate and build my students knowledge of social studies. This year we will be studying Native Americans of New York, The Revolutionary War, Industrialization, and Slavery. To make social studies come alive, I would like to show my students videos depicting these time periods. Films for example on the Boston Tea Party, Native Americans of New York, and on the early colonies. These are all very important periods in our history. In addition, a whiteboard would allow me to save lessons, use built in maps to teach continents, oceans, countries, or states and capitals. In addition, many of my students suffer from allergies. When I use the chalkboard, many students complain that the chalk dust makes them sneeze. If I had an interactive whiteboard, I would be able to use my chalk board a lot less. This resources in currently available to many schools and I think my students could greatly benefit from having this wonderful tool made available to them.

An interactive whiteboard is a phenomenal tool. It would give me a way to show my students anything which can be presented on a computer desktop (educational software, web sites, and others). An interactive whiteboard will allow me to record instruction and post the material for review by students at a later time.

With your help I can provide an effective instructional strategy for students who benefit from repetition, who need to see the material presented again, who are absent from school, and struggling learners. You can make it possible for me transform learning and instruction in my classroom and have a great school year.
