Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a fabulous class of fourth grade students. The majority of them are English-language learners.

My students absolutely love to read chapter books and now I would like them to start writing their own stories. Students always enjoy creating their own picture books because they remember the stories read to them when they were younger. Unfortunately, I have very few picture books to share with them as examples.

I would like to add new picture books to our classroom library. The majority of the books I want to expose the students to are Caldecott Award and Honor winners, so I know the students will really be impressed with them. I also included other books that relate to Latino culture so students who are learning English will really relate to these stories. My students need 35 picture books for our classroom library. 29 of the books are Caldecott Medal and Honor books. These book titles are not stated by the seller. The other books are written by Gary Soto. They are titled: "If the Shoe Fits", "The Old Man and His Door", "Chato and the Party Animals", "Cesar Chavez: A Hero for Everyone" and "Too Many Tamales".

With your kind contribution to our classroom, we will be able to expand our classroom library collection. Students will be motivated to write their own picture books, and perhaps one day, they can even publish their creations and have you to thank for it.
