Because of the implementation of high school design in our state, I am helping to prepare my 9th grade students, the majority of low poverty from rural families, for the transition from 8th grade into high school. Our school was one of the schools affected by Hurricane Rita two years ago. The flash drives will be used across the curriculum with new computers our school obtained from a grant. Students will create projects and research assignments and will use the flash drives to transport information from one class computer to another and from school to home. Freshmen will create a Redesign portfolio where they will plan a 9th grade portfolio and choose a career track.

Flash! We are now in the twenty first century. I am trying to help prepare my students for a technological world. My focus is on more student-centered activities to be explored across the curriculum and also alignment with High school Redesign where we hope to save freshmen from quitting or failure through tracking, advisory, and the implementation of cross curricula implementation of a 9th grade portfolio.

The resources needed will be flash drives. These will enable students to store projects, research, papers and be able to retrieve and print at an instant. In addition, students will be able to use the flash drive to keep a year long working portfolio from various redesign segments presented on study skills, careers, time-management,and planning and organization.

The problem with students who fail is that we are not preparing today's child for the 21st century and not giving them exposure to cross curricula learning and technology that are part of the 21st century. The 21st century student must be taught the 21st century way. FLASH - the Future is Here! THE DRIVE IS NOW!
