Students love to read to each other. The requested items will allow the students to read short "scripts" with feeling. I teach in a school in the west end of the San Fernando Valley. I teach first grade in a school that does not receive any Title I funds. As a result, we receive very little funding for extra materials. I have a mixed group of students ranging from gifted to students with special needs. The boxed reader theater scripts will allow the students to read fun and exciting materials.

With all of the restraints put on teachers with "No Child Left Behind," the reader theater scripts will allow the students additional reading materials that will promote fluency and comprehension.

My students love to read to the class. They also love to "act out" a story. By having reader theater scripts with highlighted parts for the characters, the students will be able to practice and present their work to the class. The kits will also provide a model to listen to in order to hear the excitement in the characters voice,and the tone and volume that should be used. Reading with feeling helps with comprehension. It also makes reading and listening to stories more enjoyable.

Your help will ensure that my students have a variety of reading materials to promote their growth. Reading is the key to all curriculum. I want all of my students to be able to read with gusto!
