This fall, I will be teaching our school's inaugural class of seventh graders. We will be adding eighth grade the following year. As a public charter Montessori school of 150 elementary and middle school students, we are able to offer all students a quality, individualized, Montessori education regardless of family income. Since the the Montessori middle school program is unique in how it addresses the whole adolescent, we felt that it was important that we offer this program to our community.

While we are a publicly funded school, the current budget does not provide any additional state funding for our start up costs. Parents, teachers, and members of the community are literally building this middle school program from scratch through their own donations. However, we cannot afford to purchase the materials and equipment we need to build a quality science program.

Although our resources are limited, we are committed to giving our students a quality science education. The Montessori educational philosophy stresses hands on learning. We need some very basic equipment such as flasks, graduated cylinders, droppers and the appropriate equipment and software to learn about dissections. This is all equipment that will be able to be used for many successive years, impacting hundreds of students to come.

There is every possibility that there is a "mad scientist" in our midst. Your contribution will help our students find their "inner mad scientist" by allowing them to have some of the science materials they need to further explore their love of science.
