Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Tell me and I'll forget. Teach me and I'll remember. Involve me and I'll learn." -Benjamin Franklin. This quote resonates in my mind each day that I teach. That is why I find it so important to provide my students with hands-on learning experiences in the classroom.
My students are an amazing group of five and six year olds.
They are so excited to come to school each day and are eager to learn. They come from a variety of backgrounds and their skills are varied. We have a small group of students in our grade-level that we provide extra support for (our after school intervention group). These particular students need more practice with letter identification, comprehension, phonemic awareness, and basic math concepts.
My Project
Our intervention students will greatly benefit from these materials by providing them with hands-on learning experiences. Working with the Alpha-Bots, the students will have the tactile play that is needed for retention of the letter names. The ten-frame magnetic boards will also provide the visual and tactile experience of creating numbers and equations that is needed to master number recognition, addition and subtraction fluency. Students will practice rhyming and vowel sounds through the use of puzzle play and practice story comprehension with engaging story wheels.
This project will provide my students the opportunity to master some of the basic skills needed to be successful in kindergarten.
It will do so in an engaging, visual, and tactile way.
