Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

These Kindergarten students are our future leaders, mothers, fathers, doctors, firemen, teachers, etc. I teach a class of 25 students who come from varied backgrounds including single parent homes, low income, multiple family housing, and families on welfare. Our children need strong role models. They need the interest and knowledge to become successful.

Recently, our school system adopted a new reading series. All of our funding was used to purchase supplemental materials for it. None of our funds were allocated to creative expression or dramatic play. Our children love acting out real life in a "role play" setting. They learn how to interact with each other and how to communicate effectively.

The use of career costumes and a dress up center allows them the freedom to become a professional. It encourages them to set up goals and allows them to attain their goals. Students become that character and work on problem solving with each situation they create. This opportunity opens doors to their future. It helps them realize that they can be whatever they choose to be. It builds on their character and helps boost their self confidence. Some of the most shy children open up when they are given a chance to role play. Interaction between the children mirrors real life and they learn ways to deal with others and make important decisions in a non-threatening environment.

By funding this project, you are giving our youth the chance to take on a job or role they may not otherwise get to do. You will help them build their verbal skills as well as problem solving skills. And who knows? One of them may grow up to be our next hero inspired by your generous donation!
